“He who plans a tree, plans home! ” – Lucy Lacron.
Mount Mary Higher Secondary School, Chinchinim, celebrated the Van Mahotsav on 8th July 2023. An initiative was introduced in the school to promote a culture of environmental conservation and afforestation.
The programme commenced gracefully by invoking God’s blessing followed by planting of sapling by the Manager, Rev. Fr. Alex John D’Souza and the Principal, Ms. Melba Vas.
Mast. Maxson Pereira, the compere of the programme welcomed the gathering and recited a lovely poem which was his own composition. The students of XII Science presented a skit highlighted the importance of trees in our lives and how difficult it will be to sustain on the earth without them. Ms. Saniya Makandar, delivered a speech on how trees contribute to our better life.
The Principal in her influencing speech, spoke on the significance of planting a tree as it brings life with fullness back to us and she also made an appeal to all the students to love nature. Her speech ended with the slogan “plant a tree and plant a life and love life. “
The rain failed to dampen spirits as the students of each class along with the Principal and their class teacher planted saplings and took responsibility to nurture it.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Tr. Reva Fernandes followed by the National Anthem.
The programme coordinators, Tr. Roweena, Tr. Arcangela, Tr. Simone, Tr. Reva and Tr. Avanti, ensured the smooth execution of the programme.
