Republic day Celebration

The Constitution is the back bone of our democracy.

And hence we at Mount Mary’s HSS celebrated our 75th Republic Day with much pride on 26th January, 2024.

The day began with the unfurling of the tricolour by our Chief Guest for the day, Rev. Fr. Milchester Paul Furtado, the Head Master of St. Anthony High School, Monte de Guirim, along with our Manager Rev. Fr. Alex John D’Souza and Principal Melba Vas. Everyone then saluted the flag and joined in singing the National Anthem.

Biodiversity Walk

On 25th November 2023, a Biodiversity Walk was organized by the Biodiversity Management Committee Village Panchayat Chinchinim – Deussua for the NSS students of Std. XI of our Higher Secondary as a part of awareness campaign. The walk began from the school premises at 7.30am. The group walked around the vicinity of the higher secondary and returned at 9.00am.

Total Students Participated – 35 ; Staff – 02

The walk was led by expert guides who explained about the various species of plants and birds that they encountered along the way. The walk also included interactive activities and quizzes making it more fun and engaging for the students.

Dignitaries present for the Biodiversity walk carried out on the 25th of November 2023 were:

  5. Adv. Agnelo Furtado – BMC Chinchinim-Deussua Member, President of Chinchinim Agricultural Club, VDC Chinchinim Chairperson.

Resource persons for the walk included:

  2. Karishma Gurudas Naik -Member of GBCN (Goa Bird Conservation Network)

The students actively participated in the program and showed great interest and enthusiasm in learning from first hand experience. The curiosity among the students had no end. The experts patiently dealt with every question raised by the students.

The program was coordinated by Tr. Manusha Jacques.

At the end of the program, the students were served light refreshment.

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebration

“Festivals promote feelings of social cohesion and communal harmony.”Mount Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Chinchinim celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi with great joy and festivity on 16th September 2023.
Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival that marks the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is the symbol of wisdom, understanding and intelligence. Reflecting on all his qualities various activities were organized by the institution like ‘Sweet Making Competition’, Mehandi competition and Rangoli Competition.
The students showed their enthusiasm by actively participating in the competitions. Our Principal ma’am Melba Vaz appreciated the efforts of all the participants. The festivity ended with prize distribution.

Inter Higher Secondary Indian Folk Dance Competition

India is an intricate weave of cultures each unique in its own way. To display this diversity of cultures Mount Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Chinchinim organized its Annual Indian Folk Dance Competition on 14th September 2023. This year saw 14 participating teams from different higher secondaries across Goa. To commence the program the Principal Madam Melba Vas welcomed the gathering, which was followed by a prayer dance by our very own students. The participating teams danced to the different folk songs like Goan, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Lavni, Gondal, Dhalo to name a few. The judges for the day Mr. Suraj Jaiswar, Ms. Snehal Naik and Mr. Seniel Da Costa had a tough time judging the competition. Each dance had the audience in an awe, applauding to their mesmerizing performances. Towards the end of the competition Mr. Suraj Jaiswar danced to the tunes of ‘Chaleya’, whereas Mr. Seniel Da Costa had the audience grooving while matching to his dance steps. This array of dances had to have one winner with St. Andrews, Vasco taking home the Rolling Trophy. In the second place were St. Xaviers, Mapusa. CTN Higher Secondary School, Curchorem won the third prize. The compere for the day was Tr. Manusha while Tr. Luella proposed the vote of thanks. The competition embraced diversity, with a variety of enthralling dance steps, ensuring a resounding success.
