The Highly Anticipated Sports Meet of Mount Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Chinchinim, was held on November 24, 2024 at Our Lady of Hope Church Ground, Chinchinim, with over 700 students participating in a series of exciting events. The occasion was graced by the presence of Chief Guest, Honourable MLA of Velim Constituency-Engr. Cruz Silva and Guest of Honour, Director of John Paul II and Karuna Football Foundations- Dr. Kennedy Joseph D’ Silva, both of whom were warmly welcomed by the Manager Rev. Fr. Alex John D’Souza and Principal Madam Melba Vas.
The event began with the welcome address by the Manager and the ceremonial unfurling of the School flag, followed by a melodious rendition of the School Anthem, which set an inspiring tone for the day. The dignitaries conducted a meticulous inspection of the parade, and appreciated the students for their discipline and spirit during the march past.
In an electrifying moment, the torch was lit, symbolizing unity and passion, and was carried by the most exceptional young athletes of the Higher Secondary in a spirited torch relay. This was followed by the Sportsman’s Oath, a reminder of the values of integrity and fair play. Adding to the day’s celebrations, the School Magazine “Expressions” Vol.03, was officially released, showcasing the creativity and intellectual accomplishments of the students.
The audience was captivated by a series of vibrant performances, including synchronized drills, rhythmic dance performance and intricate pyramid formations, highlighting the students’ coordination and physical prowess. Exciting track events and a thrilling Tug of War competitions kept the energy alive, as participants gave their best to win laurels.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Engr. Cruz Silva, praised the enthusiasm and talent of the students, while the Guest of Honour, Dr. Kennedy D’Silva, lauded the efforts of the Principal Ms.Melba Vas and the teachers for ensuring the seamless participation of such a large number of students. Principal Ms. Melba Vas, presented an overview of the School’s progress in the Annual Report that highlighted the numerous activities held during the year and the commendable achievements of our students in curricular and cocurricular activities and competitions.
The event culminated in a prize distribution ceremony, where the winners were honored for their achievements. Ms. Dascha Rebello and Mast. Floyd Furtado were felicitated as the Best Sports Girl and the Best Sports Boy respectively, in recognition of their exceptional achievements in the field of sports.
The meet ended on a solemn note with the lowering of the school flag, symbolizing the successful completion of the event.
The Annual Sports Meet was a resounding success, promoting unity, discipline, teamwork and physical fitness with a good School spirit. Physical Education Teacher, Sir Johnston Ribeiro was the Event Coordinator of the Sports Meet. Tr. Jewella Valadares and Sir Ozie Da Costa were the comperes for the day while Tr. Liza Aguiar proposed the vote of thanks.
