‘Kopel’ Making Competition

Mount Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Chinchinim celebrated Sao Joao with traditional fervour by organising the ‘Kopel’ making competition on 24th June 2024.

The Feast of Sao Joao is a celebration of the birth anniversary of Saint John the Baptist. The day commenced with a prayer service followed by the Bible enactment on St. John the Baptist conducted by the students of XI Arts A.

Thereafter, the ‘Kopel’ competition was organised in which twenty-eight enthusiastic students participated with a desire to spread unity and communal harmony wearing colourful crowns known as ‘kopel’ made of fruits and flowers representingjoy and abundance brought by the monsoon rains.

Fr. Christopher Fernandes, Manager of Mount Mary’s High School and Tr. Kavita Shetker were the judges for the day.

Fr. Christopher spoke on the significance of the Feast of St. John the Baptist. He also said that the name ‘John’ means ‘God is gracious’.

The Principal enthusiastically announced the prize winners. The first prize was bagged by Karishma Yadav (XII Science), the second by Johnila Pereira (XII Arts A) & the third by Gaurav Bhaskar (XI Commerce A). Pooja Chavan (XII Commerce B) , Sandrik Rebello ( XII Vocational A) & Elrich Fernandes (XI Vocational B) were awarded consolation prizes.

Tr. Nelia Pereira was the compere for the function and Sir Jack Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.
