The Constitution is the back bone of our democracy.
And hence we at Mount Mary’s HSS celebrated our 75th Republic Day with much pride on 26th January, 2024.
The day began with the unfurling of the tricolour by our Chief Guest for the day, Rev. Fr. Milchester Paul Furtado, the Head Master of St. Anthony High School, Monte de Guirim, along with our Manager Rev. Fr. Alex John D’Souza and Principal Melba Vas. Everyone then saluted the flag and joined in singing the National Anthem.
A meaningful prayer service by our students invoked God’s blessing on our country, its leaders and our school.
Soon after, students rendered a melodious patriotic song that set our foot tapping and caused love for our country well up in our hearts.
Miss Laxmi Sahani then gave a fiery speech on how we, diverse peoples of our great nation need to live together in peace and harmony.
The principal then urged us to break the bondages of fear and forge ahead. She introduced our Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Milchester Paul Furtado with great pride as he was once her student. She requested him to inspire our students.
Fr. Milchester Furtado explained in very simple words the meaning of true freedom, which is doing the right action at the right time, irrespective of whether someone is watching us or not. He said rules and laws should not be looked upon as curtailing our freedom, but rather as that which enhances it. His talk was indeed very inspiring and thought provoking.
Tr. Jenika Dias proposed the vote of thanks and with that our gracious anchor for the day, Master Bradley Fernandes from XI CRM signed off.
It was indeed a memorable day.
